How the hybrid system works
Heat pump water heaters trade room conditions and electrical readiness for substantially lower energy use.
A heat pump moves heat instead of making it directly. It uses about about one third the electricity of a conventional electric tank, with hybrid backup for higher demand.
Fits a garage, basement, or utility space with at least 700 cubic feet, a condensate path, and room for airflow.
It does not fit a tight closet. Expect fridge-like noise, some cooling, slower recovery, and hybrid operation during heavier demand.

Utility rules matter before equipment is selected, so we check eligibility against the actual installation.
The unit must be Tier 3 or Tier 4 on the PSE qualified product list and installed on or after January 1, 2026. Apply within 30 days of installation with the paid invoice. The limit is one rebate per single-family residence. PSE electric customers only. Tacoma Power customers: ask us for the current amount for your utility. Seattle City Light customers: ask us for the current amount for your utility.
